This convention has the following objectives:
- To engage a broad community of development and content conversion actors in the articulation and open externalization of knowledge as content commons in order to improve their provide and knowledge conversions in sustainable development initiatives.
- To establish clear procedures for the signatories' interaction with the content commons, for instance: how to express and reflect the commons-attribute in combination (derived) works.
- To establish a code-of-conduct for the signatories' interaction with content commons that is not available yet under an open access regime (in a particular language).
For the content commons, these objectives must imply the following:
- the cumulative articulation and global visibility of knowledge that is in the public domain;
- the ensuring of a maximal provision of knowledge commons, globally;
- the accelerated enactment of services to localize knowledge commons as part of projects and programmes aiming for sustainable development, participation and the empowerment of smallholders.
